Diego Ascencio Schutz graduated from the University of California, San Diego, earning a Bachelor of Science in Joint Economics and Mathematics with a minor in Finance. During his time at UC San Diego, Mr. Ascencio served as a Research Assistant in the Department of Economics, where he applied econometric techniques to study the long-term effects of missionary activity on the development of modern banking and enterprise systems.
Prior to joining Insight Economics, Mr. Ascencio interned with the United Nations and the World Bank. At the United Nations, he analyzed cross-sectoral datasets to assess the impact of fiscal and sectoral policies on inequality and poverty reduction. At the World Bank, he conducted political and economic analyses of labor markets and structural challenges, producing policy-oriented recommendations to promote inclusive economic growth and youth employment. He also served as a Senior Analyst for UC San Diego’s Student Foundation Investment Committee, where he developed valuation models, conducted macroeconomic research, and mentored junior analysts.
Mr. Ascencio is fluent in English and Spanish and has working knowledge of French and Portuguese. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, chess, and studying economics.
