Janie Carpenter graduated with Highest Distinction and an Honors Laureate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received her B.A. in Economics and Global Studies as well as a minor in Hispanic Studies. During her time at Chapel Hill, Ms. Carpenter served as the managing and digital editor for the Journal of Foreign Affairs at Carolina (JFAC) and was involved in the undergraduate Honor Court. She was a research assistant in the Department of Economics, where she contributed to research on the impact of cohort size on educational attainment. Ms. Carpenter is also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
Prior to joining Insight Economics, Ms. Carpenter gained experience across civil and criminal litigation. She worked for a litigation firm in Durham, where she assisted in drafting case documents such as sentencing memorandums, and she also constructed detailed juror bias reports for a civil litigation assistance firm in Chapel Hill. Additionally, she worked as a research assistant at Wake Forest University School of Law, where she assisted in the development of two legal textbooks.
Outside of work, Ms. Carpenter enjoys traveling, riding horses, and playing soccer.
